Abstract
FoodFi is a WeAD protocol that links Forever-Seal physical food stores to standardized basket units denominated with a production-cost peg in USDT/USDC — not gold. Core tokens are $RICE, $FLOUR, $WHEAT, $MAIZE, and $BEAN, with optional expansion to $SUGAR, $SALT, $PASTA, and $MILK. Honest shelf-life science targets 20–30 years under the four-step Forever-Seal process. Phase 1 of this platform is a Foundation Public Draft UI with mock pegs only — no mainnet contracts, no live minting. Pilot execution is targeted for 2027. Protocol R&D is funded at 2–5% of treasury for measurable packaging and telemetry improvements.
1. Introduction
Food insecurity is worsened by opaque reserves, unstable local currencies, and marketing that overclaims shelf life. FoodFi separates three ideas that are often conflated: (1) physical preservation science (Forever-Seal), (2) a unit of account for those reserves (basket tokens), and (3) a stable pricing denominator (USDT/USDC production-cost peg).
The brand name FoodFi signals finance rails for food security infrastructure. It does not claim that food lasts forever. Forever-Seal is the named preservation process; shelf-life statements remain ranges subject to storage conditions and audit.
2. Problem Statement
- Reserve accounting is siloed; donors and NGOs lack portable staple denominators.
- Gold-pegged narratives add volatility theater unrelated to warehouse cost of goods.
- “Forever food” marketing misleads the public; honest decades-scale claims need process disclosure.
- On-chain food projects often mint before physical audit and spoilage science exist.
3. Vision & Mission
Vision: Communities and institutions plan against verifiable, Forever-Seal reserves with transparent science and stablecoin-denominated production costs.
Mission:Publish an open protocol, coordinate pilot warehouses, fund R&D (2–5%), and — only after audit — enable governed basket units pegged to production cost in USDT/USDC.
4. Forever-Seal Preservation
Forever-Seal is a four-step process. Skipping any step voids the protocol's 20–30 year honest band:
- Moisture control — dry staples to protocol moisture targets.
- O₂ + absorbers — displace oxygen; add absorbers to halt oxidation and pests.
- Mylar light barrier — opaque laminate blocks light and vapor exchange.
- Climate storage — cool, dry warehouses with temperature/humidity logs and rotation.
Detailed tables and R&D allocation live on the Science page. Typical honest shelf life under Forever-Seal: 20–30 years for core dry staples, with shorter bands for higher-fat products (e.g. powdered milk).
5. Protocol Architecture
5.1 Physical Reserve Layer
Partner warehouses hold Forever-Seal inventory. Auditors verify mass, moisture, seal integrity, and climate logs. Inventory does not mint on-chain until Phase 3+ rules and pilot authorization are satisfied.
5.2 Commodity Token Layer
Basket units map to reference kilograms. Minting is gated behind Foundation multi-sig and external audit. Phase 1 uses mock USDT/USDC production-cost pegs only.
5.3 Marketplace Layer
Redemption, NGO allocation, and audit certificate flows — UI preview now; limited pilot in 2027. See Marketplace.
5.4 Governance Layer
FoodFi DAO (draft) governs reserve ratios, Forever-Seal audit cadence, oracle sources, and R&D split (2–5%). See Governance.
6. Commodity Basket & Tokens
Core basket (Phase 1 mock peg strip):
- $RICE — long-grain white rice (kg)
- $FLOUR — wheat flour (kg)
- $WHEAT — whole kernel wheat (kg)
- $MAIZE — dried maize (kg)
- $BEAN — dried legumes (kg)
Optional / pilot-candidate expansions:
- $SUGAR · $SALT · $PASTA · $MILK
Symbols are protocol identifiers — not live ERC-20 contracts in Phase 1. Explore mock pegs on the Basket page.
7. Production-Cost Peg (USDT / USDC)
FoodFi rejects a gold peg. Basket reference prices track production cost (warehouse intake economics) denominated in USDT or USDC. Stablecoin denominators keep the unit of account aligned with procurement reality rather than precious-metal narrative.
Phase 1 runs a clearly labeled mock oracle with deterministic tick variation for UI demonstration — not tradeable, not mainnet. Production oracles will aggregate regional cost indices, freight, and reserve attestations.
8. R&D Fund (2–5%)
Between 2% and 5%of protocol treasury (DAO-adjustable within band) is earmarked for Forever-Seal R&D: moisture telemetry, packaging trials, aflatoxin screening, nutrition degradation studies, and open audit tooling. The fund exists to improve measured shelf life and honesty of disclosures — not to market miracle preservation.
9. Marketplace & Distribution
Pilot 2027 marketplace flows: reserve attestation → governed listing with Forever-Seal disclosure → NGO/redeemer queue → physical fulfillment with off-chain logs and on-chain receipts in pilot scope. Partners require KYC/AML and storage capability review before any redemption rails activate.
10. Governance
FoodFi DAO (draft constitution) will govern parameters, oracle approval, treasury, emergency pause, and R&D band. WeAD Foundation retains bootstrap multi-sig until maturity criteria are met. Details: Governance.
11. Roadmap
- Phase 1 (now): FoodFi protocol UI, whitepaper v2, mock USDT peg, waitlist.
- Phase 2: Partner MOUs, Forever-Seal audit framework, science table with pilot data.
- Phase 3: Testnet contracts, audited minting rules, oracle beta.
- Phase 4 (Pilot 2027): Limited marketplace, NGO allocations, redemption pilot.
Full timeline: Roadmap. No live minting before audits.
12. Legal & Disclaimers
This whitepaper is a Foundation Public Draft for discussion — not an offer of securities, commodities, or financial products. No token sale is active. Shelf-life figures are Forever-Seal educational ranges (typically 20–30 years), not product guarantees. Mock USDT/USDC prices must not be used for trading or accounting. Jurisdiction-specific compliance will be addressed before any live mint or redemption program.
13. Call to Action
WeAD Foundation invites warehouses, NGOs, researchers, and integrators to review this draft, stress-test Forever-Seal assumptions, and join the Pilot 2027 waitlist.
